What Causes Diabetes?

Numerous studies have shown that the incidence of diabetes mellitus is on the rise, especially among younger adults, which leads many people to ask, “what causes diabetes?”

Diabetes and the causes are not obvious, and scientists are still unable to say why some suffer from diabetes, whilst other people do not. However it is known that there are certain risk factors, for example, if you come from a family of diabetics, then you are more prone to develop it yourself.
Rather than looking at what the causes of diabetes are, I would first like to dispel some myths, and say that eating too much sugar is not a cause, but it can cause obesity, which is associated with what causes type 2 diabetes.

Stress, again does not cause diabetes, but may act as a trigger, and does worsen the symptoms in existing diabetics. Lastly, diabetes is not contagious, so you can’t get it from anyone else.

Diabetes insipidus is a rare disorder, which is characterized by excessive thirst (and excessive urination. It is not related to diabetes where the body the body does not make or properly use insulin.

The causes of diabetes insipidus are a total or partial deficiency of the Arginine, protein, Vasopressin that is needed by the kidneys to balance the water in the body. It can cause dehydration, and show more serious symptoms, such as confusion, and changes in consciousness.

If you are wondering what causes itching and burning in a diabetic, then you may be interested to know that almost a third of people with diabetes will get skin disorders.
Itching can be caused by dry skin, poor blood flow, or a yeast infection. It may even be an allergic reaction to anti-hyperglycemic pills, or your insulin. People with diabetes are also more likely to suffer from bacterial infections. Using a natural skin lotion will help prevent this type of itching.

What causes diabetes type1?

  • The body produces insulin in the beta cells in the pancreas.
  • The causes of type 1 diabetes are because the body destroys the beta cells, but it known why this happens.
  • The causes of diabetes mellitus type 1 are not linked to obesity, as with type 2. This condition generally starts in young children, and teenagers, which is why it is known as juvenile diabetes.

The causes of type 2 diabetes mellitus are generally a poor diet, obesity, and lack of exercise, which may produce insulin resistance. With these causes, diabetes 2 natural treatment will involve eating foods with a low Glycemic index- simple carbohydrates, high in fiber, low fat and moderate protein. This lowers the blood sugar and may also help you lose weight.

What causes diabetes during pregnancy?

Gestational diabetes causes are the increase levels of hormones that are made in the placenta, which leads to glucose intolerance.
It is surprising that although many doctors know about these causes diabetes, natural treatment in the form of nutritional supplements is rarely recommended. Yet there are numerous supplements with published studies backing their efficacy at lowering insulin and blood sugar levels. Now you know what causes diabetes, isn’t it fortunate that a prescription is not required for a natural treatment.

Diabetic Supplies

Diabetes supplies are essential to the diabetic, and insulin is usually the main treatment, as it makes it possible for your body to use glucose. Various types of insulin act differently, so your supplies will be tailored according to your needs, by your diabetes care team. Both the dosage and the type of insulin can be changed if necessary.

Diabetic supplies of insulin may come in the form of vials, pre-filled pens, or cartridges. Pre-filled pens are useful if you have visual, or dexterity problems. The cartridges are used with pen injectors, and the vials with syringes.

Diabetes supplies of insulin may be rapid, long, short, or medium acting, and there are mixtures of these. Diabetic insulin supplies can also be taken orally.

FDA urge stricter Diabetes Drugs testing!

Type 2 diabetes drugs need more extensive drug safety reviews say the FDA. This is aimed principally at those drugs which may cause heart problems.

Check out my lens

The panel which mainly had experts from outside the FDA voted 14 to 2 to ensure that all type 2 diabetes drugs producers carry out longer period cardio trials, in all cases.

This should also be carried out prior to approval and could be part of a stage 3 trial aimed at reducing any heart risks.

Much of the reasons for this have come about after Avandia (rosiglitazone) was approved in 1999 and then attracted a warning about increased risk of heart disease. The FDA kept the drug on the market as they concluded the risk was no higher than with other similar drugs.

Critics of the FDA point to the Canadian Health Association - Health Canada who gave much stricter warnings with clearer wording.

Finally a study back in 2007 which was pulished in the New England Journal of Medicine found 43 % increase in cardio risks for those using Avandia.

In conclusion Dr Steven Nissen said it all when he told the FDA panel that “merely reducing blood sugar levels is too simple, it’s the complications we have to watch out for”

Diabetes Rates Rise in Australia

The latest figures from various health reports show that Australia comes 2nd to Scandinavia for new cases of diabetes Type One.

Even more worrying the figues show that 3 % more children are now diagnosed each year.

In 2000 there were nearly eight hundred new cases but in 2006 there over nine hundred new cases. This was for the 0 - 14 age group.

For the over 15’s there were around 9000 new cases for type one diabetes but these figures were relatively stable.

For the older age groups the rates actually reduced.

Dr G. Deed of Diabetes Australia was reported as saying “we may find there are certain viruses, that in certain people seem to predispose people to develop Diabetes - type 1. If this was found to be true, it would seem an easy step to producing a vaccine to kill those viruses, there may also be food problems which need research to find ways of reducing the risks.

Preventing Diabetes - 30 minutes Exercise not Enough!

Last year some research was carried out in Australia that the often recommended 30 minutes exercise per day is just not good enough for diabetes sufferers.

Brief bursts of exercise can’t undo hours sitting in front of a TV or Computer which in effects means physically inactive.

The well known International Diabetes Institute located in Melbourne made a study of approximately eight thousand people aged over 35 who were not diabetics. The conclusion was that 30 minutes per day is not sufficient to prevent the onset of diabetes and obesity amongst people who are physically inactive for much of the day. Those watching over three hours of TV per day were most at risk of developing the disease EVEN when they did 30 minutes of exercise per day.

The message was get off your rears, be active most of the day and exercise as well, EVERY day
